How the score works
- dewpoint base
- +80 if dewpoint <30°F (prime friction), grading down to -10 at 70+°F (mank). Most important factor.
- temp + sun
- +10 if rock temp lands in the crag's ideal range. Rock temp = air ± sun bump per aspect (south-facing walls can run +10°F vs air on sunny days).
- dry penalty
- 0 to -40 based on hours since last ≥0.05" rain. Overhung crags get the penalty halved (capped at -15) — some walls dry even right after rain, others don't.
- wind bonus
- -5 to +5. 5-15mph helps drying; >25mph is unpleasant.
- precip outlook
- 0 to -25 based on chance of rain in the next ~3 hours.
